FAQs

  • What's the difference between different pucks?

What's the difference between different pucks?

Contrary to what one might think, not all pucks are black. White pucks, which are less visible, are used, for example, to train goalkeepers' reflexes. Orange pucks are heavier and are used in shooting practice. Blue light pucks are the lightest in the category and are used for younger players to develop the feel for the puck. However, they are the same size as the regular and game-approved black pucks. In the assortment, you will also find smaller junior pucks as well as sponge pucks used in training to cover shots to reduce the risk of injuries.

  • Which puck can you use without ice?

Which puck can you use without ice?

For training on asphalt, concrete, or shooting pads, dedicated plastic training and street hockey pucks work best. They are designed to reduce friction and glide smoothly on their intended surfaces. A regular rubber puck works very well on a smooth shooting pad, but rough asphalt will slow it down and wear it out quickly.

  • Which pucks are approved for games?

Which pucks are approved for games?

A game-approved puck must meet the official requirements of the relevant ice hockey federation and the IIHF. It is made from vulcanized rubber, is predominantly black, and has a diameter of 7.6 cm and a thickness of 2.5 cm. The game weight must be between 156 and 170 grams, typically around 163 to 165 grams, with the correct hardness to provide consistent and predictable bounce characteristics on the ice.
