Hockey tape for the blade is used to protect the surface of the blade. In addition to reducing wear and tear on the stick blade, it also helps give you more control over the puck.
Most commonly, grip tape in the form of powerflex tape is used for the grip. Many also use regular cloth tape that is otherwise used on the blade.
There are different types of hockey tape to choose from. Cloth tape is used for taping the blade, while grip tape is what works best when you're making your knob on the stick.
