Player and goalie cuts
Standard player practice jerseys are tailored to fit over shoulder pads and elbow pads with tapered sleeves that stay close to the arms. Goaltenders have a dedicated goalie cut, often marked as GC. These jerseys feature a wider chest profile and shorter, broader sleeves designed to clear the padding of a chest protector without bunching inside catch glove and blocker cuffs.
Fabrics for training
Hockey practice jerseys use polyester knits that take board contact, stick checks and regular laundering. A basic model is a single-layer mesh in a solid colour, which is all a scrimmage needs. A technical weave is made to move sweat off your base layer and dry between sessions, which matters when you skate several times a week. The collar takes the most stretch, because the jersey is pulled on over your head and shoulder pads, so reinforced ribbing there is worth looking for.
Selecting your size
Hockey practice jerseys come in the standard divisions: youth, junior, intermediate and senior. Because a practice jersey is already cut roomy to fit over protective gear, take the size that matches your usual division. Goaltenders should compare the chest, sleeve and body measurements of the player and goalie cuts with the gear they wear rather than simply moving up several player sizes. Measure your chest circumference over your base layers and consult the size chart for the specific model. Refer to the manufacturer care tag for washing guidelines to maintain garment shape.
